Money makes people careful, and it should. If your question is not here, the Terms answer it in more detail than a summary can.
How do I collect contributions for a wedding, funeral or send-off?
Create the collection, give it a title and a target, and BetaFund gives you one link to share. Send that link to your WhatsApp group and people contribute with mobile money straight from their phones. You do not chase screenshots and you do not keep a notebook — a confirmed payment ticks the name and moves the total by itself.
Which mobile money networks can people pay with?
Contributions come in from M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas (formerly Tigo Pesa), Airtel Money and HaloPesa. A contributor types their own Tanzanian number and approves the prompt on their handset; there is nothing to install and no account to create in order to give.
What does BetaFund cost?
Creating a collection is free and there is no monthly charge. A fee applies to contributions, and it is stated in one place — Schedule A of the Terms and Conditions — alongside every limit that applies to an account. Nothing is deducted that is not written there.
How do I get the money out?
You withdraw to your own mobile money wallet or to a Tanzanian bank account, from your dashboard. The money is yours as it arrives; withdrawal timings and any limits are set out in the Terms.
Can everybody see my collection?
Only if you choose that. A collection is either listed publicly, where anyone can find it on the discovery page and give, or shared by link only — and a link-only collection never appears in the public list, never appears under a search for its event ID, and is kept out of search engines. It stays fully readable to anyone you send the link to.
Somebody forwarded me a BetaFund link. How do I know it is genuine?
Every collection has a short public ID in the shape B111AAA, printed on its own page. Check the ID in the message against the ID on the page it opens. Payments go directly to the organizer through the mobile money network, and the page shows the running total and the list of contributors, so what you are giving to is visible before you give.
Do I need to install an app?
No. BetaFund runs in the browser on any phone, and it can be added to your home screen if you want it there. Signing in uses a 6-digit code sent to your phone, so there is no password to remember and nothing to download.
What does BetaFund post into my WhatsApp group?
Connect a group and BetaFund posts the standings back into it as money arrives — who has given, what the total is, and how far the collection is from its target. It saves the organizer from answering the same question all week, and it is the reason the list in the group and the list on the page never disagree.
Which languages does BetaFund work in?
The page a contributor lands on opens in Kiswahili, with English one tap away and the choice remembered. Titles, descriptions and contributors' names are always shown exactly as they were written.
